But growing season and temperatures have increased dramatically also in this area, making the study of vegetation change of great interest for KlimaVeg. The vegetation on several mountains around the Isfjord, West Spitsbergen, has been investigated by Olaf Rønning for the first time (Rønning 1957/58). Rønning noted the maximum elevation of each plant found on the mountain slopes and up to the summit. This approach has been repeated in 2009 by Kapfer and colleagues (see Grytnes et al. 2014).</p>
